Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has congratulated the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Gregory Obi, on his 65th birthday He described him as a symbol of hope for Nigerians seeking national transformation.

In a statement released to mark the occasion, Omo-Agege, who is also the NDC senatorial candidate for Delta Central and holds the chieftaincy titles of CFR and KSJI, said he was joining millions of Nigerians at home and abroad, as well as members of the NDC, to celebrate Obi.

He recalled Obi’s tenure as Governor of Anambra State, calling it transformative and record-setting. According to him, that period was defined by prudent financial management, deliberate savings, and institutional reforms that have continued to serve as a reference point for governance in the country.

Omo-Age said Obi’s emergence as the NDC presidential flagbearer reflects the core values the party seeks to promote at a time when many Nigerians are calling for an end to what he termed the politics of waste, impunity and exclusion. He listed those values as integrity, competence, accountability and service above self.

The Delta Central senatorial hopeful said the NDC under Obi’s leadership is presenting Nigerians with a credible alternative focused on shifting the economy from consumption to production and from dependence to self-sufficiency. He added that the party’s agenda also prioritizes moving governance from exclusion to inclusion through targeted investments in education, healthcare, human capital development, security, and opportunities for Nigeria’s large youth population.

Speaking on his own political ambition, Omo-Agege said he was proud to be running on the same platform with Obi in what he described as a historic mission. He noted that the NDC’s message has gained traction across Delta Central and the wider South-South region, where he said voters believe in Obi’s vision and his ability to deliver a Nigeria that is productive, secure, accountable and fair.

He pledged to deploy his experience in the National Assembly to support an Obi presidency if elected to the Senate in 2027. According to him, the country needs a president with a clear vision and a legislature with the capacity to turn that vision into law, budgetary provisions and institutional reforms.

“A New Nigeria requires a president with your vision and a Senate with the capacity to deliver it,” Omo-Agege stated, stressing that having a senator grounded in legislative procedure would be critical to achieving the objectives of an Obi administration.

The former Deputy Senate President characterized the 2027 general election as more than a routine political contest. He described it as a movement aimed at reclaiming the country for its citizens, restoring confidence in public institutions, and proving that Nigeria can be governed with integrity and genuine concern for the people.

He expressed optimism that with Obi leading the NDC, victory in 2027 was not only possible but inevitable.

Omo-Age concluded his message with prayers for Obi’s good health, long life and wisdom, wishing him a year of greater impact, greater reach and greater victory in the pursuit of a new Nigeria.
