Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has mourned the passing of former Governor of the State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, describing his death as a painful and monumental loss to Delta State and Nigeria.
Dr. Uduaghan, who was 71 years old, died on Monday, October 19, 2026, as announced in a statement released by his family.
In a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori said he received the news of Uduaghan’s demise with deep shock and sadness.
The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s wife, Deaconess Roli Uduaghan, his children, the entire Uduaghan family of Abigborodo, the Itsekiri nation, and the entire people of Delta State.
Oborevwori described the late former governor as a detribalised Deltan and a statesman who served the state with
uncommon dedication and selflessness.
According to him, Dr. Uduaghan will be remembered for his significant contributions to the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Delta State during his time in office.
He noted that Uduaghan was a leader who rose above ethnic sentiments and worked tirelessly for the unity, peace and overall development of all parts of the state.
Tracing his public service trajectory, Governor Oborevwori recalled that the late Uduaghan served as Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and later as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) from 2003 to 2007, before he was elected Governor in May 2007. He served two terms in office until May 2015.
The Governor said Uduaghan’s years in public service, spanning over 16 years in the executive arm, left indelible marks on the governance and development architecture of Delta State.
“Dr. Uduaghan’s death is a great loss not just to his immediate family and the Itsekiri nation, but to Delta State and Nigeria at large. He was a detribalised leader whose contributions to the development of our dear state will never be forgotten,” Oborevwori said.
He prayed Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest and to grant his wife, children, family members, the Itsekiri nation, and all Deltans the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
