The Ijaw nation in Delta State has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for re-election in 2027.
This endorsement was made at a grand reception hosted by the Ijaw National Congress (worldwide) in Bomadi, attended by prominent political leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders.

The motion to endorse Tinubu and Oborevwori for a second was moved by Julius Pondi and seconded by a member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Oboro Preyor,.
The motion was thereafter subjected to a voice vote by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, and was unanimously adopted by the people.
Governor Oborevwori received the traditional title of Izonebimiewei (the man that does good) from the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum, recognizing his outstanding developmental strides across Ijaw communities.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Oborevwori expressed deep appreciation for the honour and the overwhelming show of support, describing it as one of the highest recognitions he had received from his people.
Governor Oborevwori announced that his administration has invested over N400 billion in Ijaw communities, focusing on roads, bridges, schools, and healthcare facilities, with more projects lined up for the coming years.
Governor Oborevwori highlighted key projects in the area, including the Bomadi-Gbaregolor Road, Ohoror-Bomadi road, Oporoza township roads, internal roads in Patani and Ogulagha, and the ongoing Ayakoromo Bridge, aimed at improving connectivity in riverine areas
He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, ensuring no ethnic nationality in Delta State is left behind .
Oborevwori thanked the Ijaw nation for standing by him during his 2023 campaigns and the subsequent legal challenges
“I remain grateful for the unwavering support of the Ijaw people, which strengthened me through challenging times. This endorsement is deeply appreciated and will not be taken for granted”. The Governor explained.
On his part,
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, lauded Oborevwori’s efforts, saying the terrain of riverine communities is no longer a barrier to infrastructure development .
Senator Douye Diri called on the Ijaw people to remain united, emphasizing that unity would boost their political clout and make their voices heard louder.
Prof. Benjamin Okaba, INC President, said the reception was an opportunity to appreciate Governor Oborevwori’s efforts and boost Ijaw-Delta State Government ties
Prof. Okaba acknowledged the administration’s landmark projects and pushed for more infrastructure in Ijaw areas, like roads, bridges, healthcare, and schools .
Earlier, Speaker Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor said the endorsement reflects Governor Oborevwori’s visible achievements in Ijaw communities, pointing to road projects and institutional developments.
The Ijaw nation is coming together! A show of unity like this doesn’t happen often, and it’s definitely making waves ahead of 2027.
