DELTA STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE ORDERS SUMMARY TRIAL OF OFFICERS CAPTURED IN VIRAL VIDEO
REITERATES IGP STANDS ON ZERO IMPUNITY TO POLICE MISCONDUCT

The Delta State Police Command has reviewed a viral video which captures officers of ‘C’ Division Asaba, collecting money from a motorist inside the station using a POS machine. The Incident which occurred on 13th of January 2026, is not only embarrassing but also unprofessional and conduct unbecoming of police officers. The command condemns the act in totality as no citizen deserved to be treated in such a manner by the police. Their act is inexcusable and unpardonable.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, aligns firmly with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, which expressly prohibits extortion, and also the use of POS machines or any electronic payment platforms for transactions within Police formations. The CP emphasized that no officer is authorized to demand or receive money from any member of the public under any guise.

The orderly room trial of the officers, Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim, has commenced, and upon the conclusion of the disciplinary process, the outcome will be made public.

The CP reminds all officers that extortion and abuse of office will not be tolerated under his watch. Officers are expected to carry out their duties professionally and treat members of the public with respect. He has therefore tasked officers and men to uphold the tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties with respect to fundamental human rights of all citizens in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), while noting that the actions taken against the erring officers will serve as a deterrent to others.

The CP appreciates concerned members of the public for bringing the actions of these recalcitrant officers to the notice of the command. He further encourages members of the public to continue to report any case of police misconduct through the Complaint Response Unit on 09155570008 and 09011112311. The Delta State Police Command remains committed to discipline, accountability, and building public trust.
