Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to Victor Dickson for the heinous crime of defiling his six-month-old neighbour’s baby.

A shocking betrayal of trust that has left the community reeling.

According to a detailed statement from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Dickson was convicted on Monday, marking a significant victory for justice in the case.

As a consequence of his actions, his name will be officially entered into the Sex Offenders Register maintained by Lagos State, as stipulated in Sections 33 and 38 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021 – a move aimed at protecting the public from such predators.

The agency reports that Justice Oshodi, in his ruling, emphatically stated that the prosecution had successfully proven the charge of sexual assault by penetration beyond a reasonable doubt, relying heavily on compelling circumstantial evidence that unequivocally pointed to Dickson’s guilt.

The judge dismissed Dickson’s attempts to distance himself from the crime as utterly unconvincing, highlighting the overwhelming evidence against him.

Describing the six-month-old victim as “extremely vulnerable” and defenseless, the court recounted the harrowing testimony of the baby’s mother, who revealed that Dickson had taken the infant while she was outside washing clothes, lured her into his room, and subjected her to a brutal assault.
“You betrayed the trust reposed in you.

The child cried throughout but could not call for help,” Justice Oshodi noted with palpable disgust, underscoring the horrific nature of the crime.

Emphasizing the imperative need to protect society from such depraved individuals and deter similar crimes, the court labelled the act “animalistic” – a stark reminder of the depths of depravity some individuals can sink to.

The offence, which contravene Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, ultimately resulted in Dickson’s life imprisonment sentence.
