Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has credited the strong partnership between the Executive and Legislative arms for the major achievements recorded in Delta State over the past three years.
Speaking on Sunday at the 3rd Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly, held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Unity Model Parish, Asaba, Oborevwori said the peace, progress, and development witnessed across the state stemmed from mutual understanding and cooperation between both arms of government.
*Praise for Assembly’s Commitment*
The governor commended the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and members of the Assembly for their dedication to the stability and prosperity of Delta. He said the lawmakers had shown focus, maturity, discipline, and commitment to governance.
According to him, the Legislature’s support and constructive engagement have strengthened governance and improved the delivery of democratic dividends to Deltans.
*Pledge to Uphold Constitutional Roles*
Oborevwori assured that his administration would continue to respect the constitutional roles of the Legislature while leading with the fear of God. He praised the Assembly for sustaining its tradition of beginning each legislative year with thanksgiving, calling it a clear show of gratitude for God’s guidance.
Stressing the role of divine direction, the governor urged leaders and citizens to keep praying for those in authority. Citing Proverbs 3:5-6, he said trust in God had been the secret behind his administration’s successes and encouraged lawmakers to keep acknowledging God in all they do.
*Call for Grassroots Engagement*
The governor charged Assembly members to intensify efforts in communicating government policies, programs, and achievements to people at the grassroots. He described legislators as the key link between government and citizens, adding that through constituency engagements, town hall meetings, and stakeholder consultations, they could improve public awareness of government initiatives and highlight community needs.
He noted that development projects had been spread across the state through a broad-based budgeting framework that allows lawmakers to help identify and address pressing needs in their constituencies. He urged them to sustain support for inclusive development across Delta.
*Appreciation for Past Leaders*
Oborevwori thanked former Governors James Ibori, Ifeanyi Okowa, and other political leaders for their support and presence at the service. He said their continued backing was encouraging and prayed for God’s blessings and strength upon them.
*Speaker Highlights God’s Faithfulness*
Earlier, Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, who also chairs the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, said the thanksgiving was to appreciate God for His faithfulness since the Eighth Assembly was inaugurated on June 13, 2023.
Guwor attributed the Assembly’s successes over the last three years to God’s grace, wisdom, and unity among members. He said the Legislature had stayed true to its mandate through purposeful lawmaking, effective oversight, and stakeholder engagement, leading to the passage of several bills and resolutions for good governance, economic growth, and citizen welfare.
He commended the cordial relationship among the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, calling it a key factor in the state’s stability and progress. He also lauded Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to development and support for the Legislature, noting that the partnership had helped deliver democratic dividends to the people.
*Sermon on Divine Leadership*
In his sermon titled “Wisdom for Excellent Service,” Pastor John Oyomah of RCCG Region 34, Asaba, said leadership positions are divinely ordained and come in God’s timing. Referencing Ecclesiastes 9:11 and Psalm 102:13, he explained that success in leadership is not by strength, education, or ability alone but by divine favor and destiny.
The cleric congratulated Oborevwori and other office holders, saying God’s grace was evident in their administration. He praised the governor for ongoing infrastructure projects, especially roads, describing them as proof of God’s favor and wisdom at work.
