Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday celebrated his 63rd birthday with a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, using the occasion to thank God for preserving his life and directing his path in leadership.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Oborevwori explained that the event was not meant for elaborate festivities but for expressing gratitude to God for His faithfulness and mercy. Describing himself as a committed Christian, the Governor said giving thanks to God took precedence over any social celebration tied to his birthday.
“I have come here to thank God. The most important thing for me today is to give God thanks because He has kept me and sustained me. Every other celebration is secondary,” he said.
*Appreciation to Deltans*
The Governor expressed gratitude to Deltans and his supporters for their goodwill and continued backing, pledging his unwavering dedication to serving the state. “I thank all those who have shown me love and support over the years. By the grace of God, I will continue to do my best to serve the people of Delta State and justify the confidence reposed in me,” Oborevwori stated.
*Call for Prayers*
He called on citizens to keep praying for those in positions of authority, noting that leadership demands divine guidance and wisdom. “Pray for me, pray for the state, and pray for all those in authority. We need your prayers as we continue to serve. I believe that by God’s grace, everyone will have an opportunity to fulfil their purpose in life,” he added.
Governor Oborevwori also commended the Government House Chapel chaplaincy team for their commitment to sustaining regular worship services at the chapel.
*Sermon on Wisdom*
Earlier, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemenam, delivered a sermon titled _“What Is Your Prayer to God?”_ He congratulated the Governor on turning 63 and prayed for God’s continued guidance over his life and administration.
Drawing from 1 Kings 3:7-12, Osemenam underscored the importance of seeking wisdom from God, citing King Solomon whose request for wisdom pleased God and enabled effective governance.
The cleric noted that Governor Oborevwori had shown commitment to peace, unity, and inclusive leadership across Delta State, saying such qualities reflect God’s grace in his life.
According to him, governing a diverse state like Delta requires divine wisdom, patience, and a heart for peace. He praised the Governor’s efforts in promoting harmony among the various ethnic nationalities and communities, and prayed for greater wisdom and strength for him to lead the state toward peace, progress, and development.
*Attendance and Highlights*
The thanksgiving service was attended by family members, government officials, political associates, clergy, and worshippers who joined the Governor in marking the milestone and offering prayers for his administration’s continued success.
A highlight of the service was the cutting of the birthday cake by Governor Oborevwori, supported by his wife, clerics, and senior government functionaries.
