A wave of excitement swept through Emevor and neighboring communities in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State as residents celebrated the completion of Phase II of the 4.8-kilometre Emevor-Orogun Road.

The project, executed by indigenous construction company has drawn widespread praise for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

*Commissioner Inspects, Praises Quality*
The commendations followed an on-site inspection by the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu. During the visit, Aniagwu expressed strong satisfaction with the standard of work delivered and reiterated the state government’s commitment to opening up rural areas through deliberate infrastructure investment.

He described the completed road as clear proof of Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda in action — particularly its pillars of Meaningful Development and Opportunities for All. According to Aniagwu, the road has already improved access, boosted local commerce, and strengthened inter-community links across the corridor.

The Commissioner specifically lauded the contracting firm calling it one of several indigenous contractors demonstrating that local firms have the skill, capacity, and technical know-how to deliver major projects to the highest standards.

He said the quality of the Emevor-Orogun Road justifies the state’s trust in homegrown companies, noting their track record of professionalism, timely delivery, and strict compliance with specifications.

Aniagwu highlighted the road’s clean finishing, structural durability, and overall visual appeal, stating that the project proves capable indigenous contractors can match any construction firm nationally.

He added the contracting firm and other local contractors working across Delta continue to deliver durable, high-quality infrastructure that meets government expectations and community needs.

*Engineering Challenges Overcome*
Detailing the scope of work, Aniagwu explained that the project required major engineering interventions.

These included extensive earthworks, construction of drainage systems, and replacement of poor soil materials in swampy stretches of the road. In particularly difficult sections, specialized swamp buggies were deployed to meet approved engineering standards.

He commended the contractor for finishing critical earthworks and the stone base layer before the peak of the rainy season, a move that allowed work to continue despite adverse weather. “On the whole, I am very impressed with the amount of work done and the quality of execution.

The contractor worked according to schedule and was able to overcome weather-related challenges because the earthworks and stone base were completed early enough before the peak of the rainy season,” Aniagwu said.

The binder course was also completed on schedule, keeping the project on track for timely delivery.

*Outstanding Works and Resident Conduct*
While satisfied overall, the Commissioner issued directives for final touches as he  instructed the contracting firm to immediately desilt blocked drainage channels and finish concrete works at designated discharge points to ensure stormwater flows effectively into nearby swamps.

He also ordered the replacement of a few cracked concrete slabs, attributing the damage to premature use by some residents before the concrete fully cured.

Aniagwu used the opportunity to educate the public, stressing that drainage systems are designed based on technical surveys, not aesthetics. He warned residents against blocking drains with sand or other materials for personal convenience, explaining that such actions obstruct water flow and can shorten the lifespan of the road.

He confirmed that road markings and other finishing works would be completed before the project is presented to Governor Oborevwori for commissioning.

*Residents React, Governor’s Rural Agenda Applauded*
During the inspection, community members expressed deep gratitude to Governor Oborevwori, calling the road transformative. Aniagwu shared a moving account of meeting a visually impaired resident who, though unable to see the road, thanked the government for its smooth surface and the ease it had brought to transportation in the area.

He said the man’s comments captured the general sentiment and showed the real impact of the administration’s rural development drive.

Aniagwu reassured residents that more road projects are coming, as Governor Oborevwori remains committed to linking rural communities, improving livelihoods, and driving development across all parts of Delta State.

*Contractor Credits Government, Community Support*
The firm  Project Director, Engr. Oghale Agelebe, thanked the Delta State Government and the Isi-Emevor host communities for their support, which he said was key to the project’s success. He assured that all observations made by the Commissioner would be addressed before the official inauguration.

Agelebe noted that although the terrain was extremely challenging, the combined support and cooperation of the state government and the Isi-Emevor communities enabled the company to overcome obstacles and complete the road in record time.

“It was a very difficult terrain, but with the support and cooperation of the state government and the Isi-Emevor communities, we were able to overcome the challenges and deliver the project within record time,” he said.
