Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed all political appointees eyeing elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign by March 31, 2026.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government(SSG) Dr.Kingsley Eze Emu, this directive applies to various categories of appointees, including *Honourable Commissioners, Advisers, Directors-General, Executive Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Personal Assistants, and other Political Appointees*

The statement adds that the resignation is required to comply with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable for party primaries.

It further stated that affected officials must submit their formal resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and hand over duties to Permanent Secretaries or senior career officers in their Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs)

According to the statement, this move is part of efforts to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure compliance with electoral laws, as emphasized by President Bola Tinubu’s similar directive to his ministers and aides.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has backed this directive, stressing the need for fairness in the political process
