Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to quality and adherence to contractual agreements in the ongoing reconstruction of Warri Stadium.
During a site inspection on Tuesday, Oborevwori expressed dissatisfaction with delays, noting the project was supposed to be completed by December.

“The agreement was for the contractor to finish in December, and now we’re in April,” he said,
He stressed that timelines must be respected.
While he commended the playing pitch’s quality, describing it as satisfactory and meeting expectations, he rejected substandard cladding, insisting on durable materials.
“This cladding is temporary; it will be removed. We have paid for quality, not something that will fade in a few years,” Oborevwori stated.

He emphasized that the state government won’t alter the contract but expects the contractor to deliver according to agreed specifications.
Oborevwori warned that further failure to meet expectations would attract public scrutiny: “If he fails us again, we’ll expose him,” naming Peculiar Consults as the contractor.
He urged the media to hold the company accountable.
Citing land limitations and preserving the stadium’s identity, Oborevwori explained that renovating the existing stadium was the best option. Plans to relocate residents were rejected to protect homes and livelihoods.
The governor aims to host major sporting events at the upgraded stadium, noting Delta’s commitment to sports development.
He plans to renovate Asaba’s Stephen Keshi Stadium after Warri’s project completion.
Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Gusau, praised Oborevwori’s commitment, noting the pitch meets modern standards.
The stadium might host its first match in September, potentially featuring the Nigeria national team.
National Institute for Sports Director-General, Phillip Shaibu, lauded the project, describing the turf as exceptional.
