The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) in Effurun, Delta State, has strongly denied allegations made by SaharaReporters about flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels on its campus.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Institute on Friday, July 11, 2025,

The statement described the report as false, malicious, and misleading, stating that its facilities are in good condition and well-maintained.

The Institute said the controversial article, published by SaharaReporters on July 10 and titled “Despite ₦39 Billion Budget, Students at Nigeria’s Petroleum Training Institute Study in Flooded Classrooms, Snake-Infested Hostels”, was the handiwork of individuals attempting to malign the institution’s reputation and undermine its progress.

PTI’s management challenged SaharaReporters to provide credible evidence to support their claims, pointing out that student leaders and hostel governors would have spoken out if the allegations were true.

The institute also explained that its ₦39 billion budget covers various expenditures, including capital projects, personnel costs, and operations, all subject to strict oversight.

The institute emphasized its commitment to hands-on training and industry partnerships, highlighting recent recognition from the Africa Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) and the Republic of Niger. PTI demanded a retraction and apology from SaharaReporters within 48 hours, warning of legal action if the platform fails to comply.
