Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed immediate intervention on the failed Mosogar-Oghara portion of the Warri-Benin Highway to ease the hardship faced by thousands of motorists and commuters on the busy federal road.

The directive was announced on Wednesday by the State Commissioner for Works, Highways and Urban Roads, Reuben Ize, following weeks of complaints by road users on social and conventional media over the poor state of the highway.

Ize said the emergency work reflects the governor’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure problems that affect the daily lives and livelihoods of residents.

Although the Warri-Benin Highway is a federal road, the commissioner explained that the state government could not fold its arms while commuters suffered long gridlocks, delays and safety risks on a route that is vital to economic activities across the South-South.

He stated that the governor ordered remedial work to restore traffic flow and improve safety on the affected section pending a full reconstruction by the Federal Government.

According to Izeze, Obakpor Engineering Construction Company has already mobilized to the site with stones, sand and other materials, signaling the start of the emergency rehabilitation. He expressed optimism that the intervention would reduce travel time and ease vehicular movement.

The commissioner added that the move underscores the spirit of cooperation between the Delta State and Federal Governments in delivering infrastructure for the benefit of citizens. He described it as a practical demonstration of the development goals under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda.

“It further re-emphasises the mutual inclusivity of the BAT/SHERIFF vision for our people as captured by the Renewed Hope/M.O.R.E. Agenda of these national and sub-national visionaries respectively,” Izeze said.

The Warri-Benin Highway serves as a major link between the South-South and other parts of the country. It is heavily used by commuters, commercial drivers and haulage trucks transporting petroleum products, agricultural produce and other goods.

The Mosogar-Oghara axis has in recent months become one of the worst sections of the road, with persistent potholes causing frequent traffic bottlenecks, vehicle breakdowns and higher transport costs.

The state government said the emergency repair is expected to bring immediate relief to road users while reinforcing its commitment to responsive governance and the welfare of the people.
