Delta Assembly Declares Udu Constituency Seat Vacant

The Delta State Government has accused Senator Ovie Omo-Age of trying to “manufacture crisis” and whip up public sympathy, after the NDC senatorial candidate alleged that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was plotting to eliminate him.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, described Omo-Age’s claim as baseless and unnecessary, insisting there is no ground for confrontation between the governor and the former Deputy Senate President ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Aniagwu said the allegation does not add up because both men are contesting different offices in 2027.
“Oborevwori is not running for Delta Central Senatorial seat. He is seeking re-election as Governor of Delta State. Omo-Age is running for Senate. They are not competitors. They will not even appear on the same ballot,” the commissioner stated.
“Why would the governor leave his lane to go after somebody who is not in the same race with him? Eliminate him for what?” he asked?

The commissioner alleged that the claim was a deliberate attempt by Omo-Agege to divert attention from the performance of the Oborevwori administration and to grab media space at the start of his campaign.
“How do you, on day one of your campaign, begin to look for tension and sympathy by saying someone wants to eliminate you?” Aniagwu asked.

He recalled that Oborevwori and Omo-Agege had already faced each other in the 2023 governorship poll, which Oborevwori won “fairly and squarely” on the strength of his credibility and acceptance across Delta.
“Now that his performance under the MORE Agenda is visible for everyone to see, why would he be looking for you?” Aniagwu asked.

According to Aniagwu, the state government has enough achievements to fill the media space and does not need to engage in political fights.
“We have positive things to unfold daily. Oborevwori has something to show on a daily basis. We don’t even have enough time to showcase all we are doing,” he said.

He urged Omo-Age to focus on selling his agenda to the people of Delta Central instead of attacking the governor.
“Our stories are already being told in the villages. The people can see what the governor promised and what we have delivered,” he added.

The commissioner also defended the governor’s role in strengthening the All Progressives Congress in Delta, noting that the party was deeply divided before Oborevwori’s emergence.
“Before now, the APC in Delta was polarized. But the governor’s leadership has unified the party. Apart from him, everyone else is now on the same page,” Aniagwu said, citing the rancour-free conduct of the party’s recent primaries as proof.

He stressed that the administration’s priority remains delivering on the MORE Agenda and providing a safe, investment-friendly environment for all Deltans, including political opponents.
“The lives of our people matter, including his own. Oborevwori will do everything to ensure everybody lives in safety,” he said.

Looking ahead to February 2027, Aniagwu expressed confidence that voters would reward the governor based on his record.
“Deltans have seen the developments in the last three years. Being people who look out for what is good, they will definitely look in the direction of Governor Oborevwori at the ballot,” he concluded.

He advised Omo-Age to “stay with his campaign and stop looking for stories that do not add up.

It will be recalled that the venue of a New Delta Congress, NDC, campaign meeting in Uvwie Local Government Area was recently disrupted by armed men, according to a statement from the office of Senator Ovie Omo-Age.

The senator directly accused Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of being behind the attack.

He alleged that over 50 armed men, led by Mr. Emmanuel Erube, described as the Disciplinary Committee Chairman of “Jakpa”, stormed the venue, pulled down canopies and destroyed campaign materials.

Omo-Age further alleged that during the invasion, Erube and his men threatened to kill him and the NDC Uvwie Campaign Coordinator, Olorogun Dr. Esere Ejifoma Atumu, if they showed up.

He said he holds the governor “directly responsible and culpable,” citing alleged private remarks by Oborevwori that he would have Omo-Age killed “and nothing will happen because he is the Chief Security Officer of Delta State.”
