The Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), the apex socio-cultural body of the Ndokwa Nation, on Tuesday passed a vote of confidence in Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, citing his inclusive governance, equitable distribution of projects, and development-focused leadership.

The endorsement was delivered during a courtesy visit by NNU executives, elders, and key stakeholders of Ndokwa Nation to Government House, Asaba. The delegation commended the Governor for his fairness, accessibility, and commitment to infrastructure delivery across the state.

Speaking for the group, NNU President-General Chief Amaechi Asugwuni said the visit was to express gratitude for the Governor’s interventions in Ndokwa land and beyond. He noted that the Ndokwa people have consistently benefited from Oborevwori’s goodwill and dedication to balanced development.

Asugwuni highlighted the completion and handover of Ndokwa House as a landmark achievement. He described the facility as a future hub for consultation, planning, and collective decision-making for generations of Ndokwa people.

He also praised the completed Asaba-Kwale-Ughelli Road, saying it has greatly improved connectivity between Asaba and Ndokwa communities and created a strategic alternative route in the state. The Governor’s open-door approach was also commended, with Asugwuni noting that requests for meetings and dialogue have always received prompt attention.

On challenges facing the area, the NNU leader appealed for the step-down of the Okpai Independent Power Plant to address electricity shortages. He strongly condemned vandalism of public infrastructure, stating that development cannot continue if a few individuals destroy facilities meant for communal benefit.

“We cannot continue to demand development while allowing a few individuals to sabotage facilities meant to improve our lives,” Asugwuni said. He apologized for losses caused by the vandalism of power assets and assured the Governor that community leaders are reinforcing local security to prevent further incidents.

The Union also requested the siting of higher institutions and other critical infrastructure in Ndokwa land, including key road projects to boost connectivity and economic growth.

Concluding, Asugwuni declared: “On behalf of the National Executive Council of Ndokwa Neku Union and the entire Ndokwa ethnic nationality, we unanimously pass a vote of confidence in Your Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, in recognition of your exemplary, inclusive, and development-oriented leadership.”

*Governor Responds, Pledges Continued Development*
In his response, Governor Oborevwori thanked the Ndokwa leaders for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to developing every part of Delta State.

He singled out Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme for praise, describing him as a dedicated public servant who has contributed significantly to the state’s growth. He also commended Chief Asugwuni’s leadership, calling him articulate, passionate, and committed to his people’s progress.

Addressing electricity concerns, Oborevwori acknowledged the difficulties facing Ndokwa communities and blamed repeated vandalism for delays in restoring power. He announced that the state government has approved additional funds for ongoing electrification projects, with work set to begin soon in affected areas.

The Governor added that the government is engaging the Transmission Company of Nigeria and other stakeholders to resolve power challenges. He confirmed that the proposed Okpai Step-Down Facility is still under consideration.

Oborevwori commended Ndokwa Nation for publicly denouncing vandalism, noting that destruction of public assets raises project costs and slows development.

*Education, Roads, and Representation*
On calls for more tertiary institutions, the Governor pointed out that Ndokwa Nation already hosts a federal university and urged stakeholders to strengthen existing institutions. He assured the delegation that several road projects they requested have either been approved or are under construction.

He emphasized that Ndokwa people hold strategic roles in his administration, including the Deputy Governor, Commissioner for Energy, and Commissioner for Finance, ensuring their interests are well represented.

*2027 and Statewide Development*
Speaking on the 2027 political outlook, Oborevwori said Delta’s current political arrangement promotes continuity, stability, and inclusiveness. He stressed that his administration is focused on project delivery rather than publicity.

“I remain Governor for all Deltans, irrespective of ethnic affiliation. What I do for Ndokwa, I will do for Isoko, Ijaw, Urhobo, Anioma, and every other part of the state. The evidence is visible across Delta State. Our projects are spread throughout the state. We are showing results and we are showing our work,” he said.

The Governor thanked the delegation for presenting a united front of traditional rulers, lawmakers, council chairmen, and political leaders, and assured them of continued partnership to advance the development, unity, and prosperity of Delta State.
