Ijaw Leader Mulade Sheriff has called on the Federal Government and state governments to prioritize accountability, transparency, and people-focused governance in 2026.

In a New Year message, Mulade urged President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to alleviate economic hardship through inclusive economic policies that benefit ordinary Nigerians.

He emphasized that Nigerians are struggling with severe economic challenges and need urgent relief.

Mulade also commended Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the ongoing infrastructure development in major cities but urged him to extend similar projects to riverine communities predominantly occupied by the Ijaw and Itsekiri people.

These communities contribute significantly to the state’s economy through oil and gas revenue, and Mulade believes that inclusive development will foster peace, stability, and cooperation between the government and citizens

The Ijaw leader stressed the importance of peace and stability in attracting investors and driving development in Delta State. He called on citizens to support the government in ensuring a peaceful and secure environment, which is essential for economic growth and development.

Mulade expressed optimism that 2026 would bring better living conditions and greater opportunities for Nigerians, particularly with the Delta State budget of ₦1.7 trillion, which he hopes will mark a turning point toward responsive governance and sustainable development ¹ ³.
