In a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and offered prayers for the quick recovery of the injured victims currently receiving medical care.

The Governor called the incident “heartbreaking and unfortunate,” stressing that the loss of lives was a deep tragedy for the bereaved families and for Delta State as a whole. He confirmed that the state government immediately activated emergency response teams and deployed relevant authorities to the accident site to assist victims and manage the situation.

*Immediate Government Action*
To coordinate on-the-ground efforts, Governor Oborevwori directed the Commissioner for Special Duties, alongside the Chairmen of Ika South and Ika North-East LGAs, to proceed to the scene and oversee rescue operations.

He also praised security agencies for their rapid response. The Commissioner of Police was present at the site and deployed personnel to secure the train, passengers’ luggage, and other valuables.

*Casualty Management and Evacuation*
Injured passengers were quickly evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment. Survivors who escaped unhurt were transported to town, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary. The state dispatched buses to the scene to assist with evacuating both survivors and the injured.

Hon. Monday Odigwe, Chairman of Ika North-East LGA, gave an update on the injured: 35 passengers are receiving treatment across three hospitals — 13 at Central Hospital, Agbor; 12 at General Hospital, Owa-Oyibu; and 10 at General Hospital, Owa-Alero.

Officials indicated that efforts to lift the train are scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

*Commitment to Victims*
Governor Oborevwori prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and asked God to grant their families the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and safety of all residents, assuring that the government will closely monitor the situation and continue providing necessary support to those hospitalized.
