The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspects and disrupted cult activities in separate Operations. The police recovered firearms, including a locally-made double-barrel pistol and an English-made Beretta pistol, as well as ammunition and illicit drugs.
The arrests include:
– A 32-year-old suspected cult leader and armed robber, Peter Onajite, with a locally-made pistol and cartridges

– Three suspects, including a female, involved in a suspected cult initiation, with a Beretta pistol and other items

The police are investigating and plan to charge the suspects in court. The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the operatives and warned that the police will continue to clamp down on cult-related activities and violent crimes.

DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS FOUR SUSPECTS, DISRUPTS CULT ACTIVITIES; RECOVERS ONE LOCALLY MADE DOUBLE BARREL CUT-TO-SIZE PISTOL, ONE ENGLISH-MADE BERETTA PISTOL, THREE LIVE CARTRIDGES, ONE EXPENDED CARTRIDGE, AND ILLICIT DRUGS
The Delta State Police Command has recorded another operational success in its sustained efforts to curb cultism and violent crimes across the State.
In separate operations, operatives of the Command achieved the following:
1. ARREST OF A SUSPECTED NOTORIOUS CULT LEADER/ARMED ROBBER AND RECOVERY OF ONE LOCALLY MADE DOUBLE BARREL CUT-TO-SIZE PISTOL, TWO LIVE CARTRIDGES, ONE EXPENDED CARTRIDGE
On 11 April 2026 at about 1145hrs, operatives of Delta Shield, while on surveillance patrol at Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area, intercepted one Peter Onajite ‘M’, aged 32 years. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally made double barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, as well as sachets of suspected Tramadol.
During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of Juris Confraternity. The suspect is currently in custody, while investigation is ongoing.
2. DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND FOILS SUSPECTED CULT INITIATION, ARREST THREE SUSPECTS AND RECOVER ONE BERETTA PISTOL
On 12 April 2026 at about 1300hrs, following a report of a suspected cult initiation involving one Chinedu Onyeama ‘M’ (now at large) and members of a cult group known as Aiye, operatives attached to Ibusa Police station swiftly mobilised to Jordan Road, Ibusa.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspects, including a female. A search conducted at the premises resulted in the recovery of one English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and thirty-nine firelighters. The suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.
The Delta State commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, commended the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response. He reaffirmed the Command’s
commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned that the Police will continue to clamp down on cult-related activities and other violent crimes.
