The African Democratic Congress (ADC) caucus in the House of Representatives is calling for the immediate removal and prosecution of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, citing concerns over his impartiality ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Report says the lawmakers allege Amupitan made partisan statements on his personal X account, including expressing support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and posting content alleging Christian genocide in Nigeria.

The ADC caucus claims digital forensic analysis suggests the X account in question belongs to Amupitan, raising concerns about his transparency and integrity.

INEC has denied the allegations, stating there’s no verified forensic evidence linking Amupitan to the posts.

The demand stems from a leadership crisis within the ADC, with INEC’s recognition of a rival faction led by Nafiu Bala, contradicting the party’s authentic leadership under former Senate President David Mark.

The caucus accuses INEC of intervening in internal party matters, potentially preventing the ADC from fielding candidates in the 2027 elections
