Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, is it dead.
The iconic actor died at the age of 84.
His death was announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, in a statement posted on his official Instagram handle on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
In the post, the family expressed gratitude to God for a life well lived, and appealed to the public to respect their privacy at this difficult time.
The statement reads in part, “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.”
Olu Jacobs was one of the most celebrated figures in the Nigerian film industry, with a career spanning over five decades in theatre, television and Nollywood.
He was renowned for his commanding stage presence, distinct voice and versatile interpretation of roles, which earned him several national and international honours.
He is survived by his wife, fellow veteran actress Joke Silva, children and grandchildren.
Details of his burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
