High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has appealed for peace amid ongoing protests in the Escravos and Warri river areas over the delayed ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency.
In a press statement issued from Oporoza Town, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West LGA, Tompolo, the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, addressed the situation that began on June 8, 2026.
*Peaceful Occupation of Oil Installations*
Tompolo noted that since yesterday, June 8, 2026, women and youths from various communities have been engaged in mass action, peacefully occupying oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri river areas. He said many well-meaning Nigerians have since been calling for a peaceful resolution of the standoff.
“I join all well-meaning Nigerians to call for a peaceful resolution,” Tompolo stated.
*Appeal to Uphold Ijaw Tradition of Peace*
He reminded the public that the Ijaw Nation has historically been known for its peaceful disposition and said this tradition must be maintained. Tompolo warned that the current political tension, which stems from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s failure to complete the ward delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency, must not be hijacked or allowed to spiral into violence.
“The current political situation arising from the failure of INEC to complete the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency and mass action must not be allowed to be hijacked or to degenerate into violence of any sort,” he said.
*Call for Calm and Dialogue*
Tompolo appealed for calm regardless of the circumstances. He called for an immediate meeting of community leaders to collectively determine a way forward.
“I am calling for calm no matter the situation. I am also calling for a meeting of community leaders to meet immediately to enable us devise a way forward. We must all join hands in seeking a peaceful resolution to this impasse,” he urged.
*Charge to INEC and Residents*
He called on INEC to act decisively and do what is right in order to restore peace in Warri and surrounding areas.
“INEC must determine to do the right thing and restore the peace in Warri and environs,” the statement read.
Tompolo further appealed to all residents of Warri, whether Ijaw, Itsekiri, or Urhobo, to remain calm and patiently await INEC’s action on the matter
