Renowned Delta-born peace advocate and development campaigner, Comrade Mulade Sheriff has voiced serious concern over the growing tension in Warri and surrounding communities in Delta State.
Mulade, who contested as an NDC candidate in the recently concluded party primaries, criticized the actions of certain individuals he accused of fueling ethnic divisions, resorting to blackmail, and making inflammatory remarks following the outcome of the primaries.
He said such conduct distracts from the real task of preparing for victory in the 2027 general elections.
He made a strong appeal to residents and political supporters across Warri to prioritize unity and lasting peace, noting that a stable environment is key to attracting investment and generating jobs for the area’s large youth population.
He described Warri as the commercial heartbeat of Delta State and stressed that its progress depends on peace.
The Ibe-Sorimowei of the oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West LGA commended the Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, and other ethnic groups within Warri Federal Constituency for maintaining calm and embracing unity despite provocation and inciting statements from some quarters.
Mulade emphasized that the peace and stability of Warri and its environs outweigh any personal political aspiration he may hold. He therefore appealed to all residents to reject ethnic prejudice and hatred, warning that such sentiments could spark conflict and derail development in Delta State.
The development advocate further urged Warri residents to foster peaceful coexistence and collective action, while supporting the Delta State Governor’s drive to deliver infrastructure and democratic dividends to the people.
“It is important to state clearly that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of crisis and conflict,” Mulade stated.
