Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased investment in science and strengthening of health systems to achieve sustainable progress in healthcare.
Speaking on World Health Day 2026, themed “Together for Health: Stand with Science,” she emphasized that innovation, research, and collaboration are crucial to tackling global health challenges and improving quality of life.
The First Lady highlighted the importance of scientific partnerships in addressing health issues, citing their pivotal role in improving health outcomes worldwide. She stressed the need for resilient and inclusive health systems capable of responding effectively to emerging threats, including pandemics and epidemics.
Oluremi Tinubu also underscored the One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, plant, and environmental health as key to long-term health security.
This approach, she noted, is essential for preventing and responding to health crises.
In her message, the First Lady urged governments, stakeholders, and the international community to prioritize investments in scientific research and healthcare infrastructure.
She emphasized the need for partnerships that deliver improved health outcomes, particularly in areas with limited resources.
World Health Day, observed annually on April 7, marks the founding of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1948.
The commemoration, which began in 1950, aims to spotlight key global health priorities each year.
The First Lady’s message is seen as a call to action for Nigeria and the global community to recommit to improving healthcare systems and addressing pressing health issues
