The 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Delta State came to a poignant climax with a solemn assembly and wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in Asaba.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, and top government officials.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Tessy Diai, Service Commanders of the Armed Forces, and the Commissioner of Police in the state.

Other notable attendees include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Orodje of Okpe, HRM, Maj-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd.), and members of the Nigerian Legion.

The ceremony began with a traditional military salute as Governor Oborevwori arrived at the venue.

He was led to inspect a guard of honor mounted by officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Nigerian Legion, showcasing discipline, honor, and national unity.

A minute of silence was observed in honor of the fallen heroes, followed by interfaith prayers for the repose of their souls, the welfare of veterans, and divine guidance for the nation’s leadership.

Governor Oborevwori, accompanied by Service Commanders, the Commissioner of Police, and other dignitaries, laid wreaths at the ceremonial tomb of the unknown soldier.

The ceremony was marked by the firing of volleys and the release of white pigeons, symbolizing peace, hope, and renewal.

The event served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s fallen heroes and the importance of sustaining peace, unity, and patriotism for future generations.

The ceremony reaffirmed Delta State’s commitment to the noble ideals for which the nation’s heroes fought and fell.

The 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration is a solemn national observance that honors the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes.

President Bola Tinubu recently launched the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem appeal fund in honor of Nigeria’s fallen heroes, wounded veterans, and serving troops on the frontline of duties.
