The solemn burial ceremony took place at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, where the fallen officers and soldiers were honored with full military rites.

The soldiers were killed on April 9, 2026, when suspected fighters of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) carried out coordinated attacks on military formations in Benisheikh, a key town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.

The attack was part of a larger wave of violence that has plagued the region, with the insurgent groups targeting military outposts and civilians alike. The Nigerian military has been working to counter the insurgency, but the attacks continue to claim lives and disrupt the local economy.

The burial ceremony was attended by top military officials, government dignitaries, and family members of the fallen soldiers. The atmosphere was somber, with tributes paid to the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers who gave their lives in service to the nation.

The Nigerian Army has vowed to continue fighting against the insurgent groups, with a spokesperson stating that the military would “redouble efforts to ensure the security of the nation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
