This digital platform assigns a unique, permanent academic identity to every student, enabling the government to track learners across the education system and improve education data management.

The LIN initiative is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the quality of education and support planning across schools in the country.

Over 1.9 million students sitting for the 2026 examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) have already been issued LINs, with plans to expand the system nationwide across public and private schools.

The LIN will play a crucial role in:

– Strengthening education data and examination integrity

– Identifying and tracking pupils who drop out before completing their secondary education

– Monitoring students’ academic journeys, including assessments, even when they change schools

– Enhancing examination security and reducing impersonation

– Supporting the tracking of out-of-school children, dropouts, and learning gaps

According to Mr. Alausa, the LIN will be used to track and identify pupils who drop out, saying it will assist in tracking pupils from primary school through their academic journey. The system is integrated with the Digitised National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), providing a national register of schools and enabling seamless data exchange.

The Ministry of Education is working closely with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the LIN system. The ministry is calling on educators, policymakers, and the general public to support the full implementation of the initiative, which is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s education sector.

*The Benefits are in below chart*

The government is committed to expanding the LIN system nationwide, ensuring that every student has a unique academic identity and can access quality education.
