The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has congratulated the Delta State House of Assembly on passing the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency Bill, a crucial step towards addressing rising security concerns in the state.
DOPF led by Mr. Emmanuel Enebeli had consistently advocated for a community-driven security framework to tackle issues like rural banditry, kidnapping and herder-farmer conflicts.
*Key Points:*
– *Community Security Corps*: The bill provides a legal framework for recruiting, training and deploying community-based security operatives familiar with local terrains and dynamics.
– *Benefits*: The Corps is expected to restore confidence among residents, particularly in rural areas, and improve food production by ensuring security in farmlands.
– *Call to Action*: DOPF urges Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to swiftly assent to the bill, enabling immediate implementation and providing communities with renewed hope, protection and stability.
– *Implementation*: The Delta State Government is encouraged to establish a robust implementation structure with adequate funding, transparency and professional oversight, fostering synergy with conventional security agencies, traditional institutions and community leaders
By passing this bill, the Delta State House of Assembly demonstrates legislative responsiveness to the state’s needs, addressing security concerns and promoting local development. DOPF commends the Assembly for this patriotic move and stands ready to support public sensitization efforts around the new law
