The Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) has greenlit projects worth over N42 billion, focusing on road infrastructure, erosion and flood control, and enhancing electricity supply across the state.
This decision was made during a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
According to Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, these approvals align with the administration’s commitment to accelerating development and improving the quality of life for Deltans.
The projects include major roadworks, such as the reconstruction of Phase Two of the Old Lagos-Asaba Road, covering the Obior to Ubulu-Uku axis, as well as other key routes in various local government areas.
Some project costs have been revised upward due to changes in market prices and earlier delays caused by weather and funding challenges. Additionally, the EXCO approved the construction of erosion control measures around the Asaba International Airport and flood control works along Dennis Osadebay Way.
In the energy sector, the EXCO approved the replacement of a broken-down 15MVA power transformer and the installation of new 300KVA transformers to improve electricity supply in Udu and surrounding communities.
The Commissioner emphasized that these interventions aim to boost energy supply, support economic activities, and improve living conditions in Delta communities. He also announced that the Governor had signed the N1.7 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, with over 70% dedicated to capital expenditure and infrastructure development.
Despite the upcoming election season, the administration assured that it would continue to prioritize development, following due procurement processes for project awards and execution.
The Commissioner expressed confidence that the approved projects would significantly advance Delta State’s developmental trajectory.
