Delta State Governor Honored with Excellence Award

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has received an Award of Excellence at the maiden edition of the Warri International Film Festival. The award recognizes his outstanding support for Nollywood and his transformative impact on Warri.
The Governor’s efforts in rebuilding Warri through infrastructural renewal, urban regeneration, and policies that promote the creative economy have been praised. His administration has invested in road infrastructure, urban beautification, security architecture, and youth-focused creative programs, creating new opportunities for filmmakers, entertainers, and other stakeholders in the creative sector.
The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, announced plans to establish a film village in Warri in 2026. This project aims to promote creative interest, attract investment, and boost the city’s status as a hub for the Nigerian film industry.
The Founder of the festival, Mr. Alex Eyengho, described Governor Oborevwori as a “visionary leader” whose policies have created a conducive environment for artistic expression and cinematic growth. The State Commissioner for Works and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, expressed gratitude to the organizers and highlighted the Governor’s commitment to transforming Warri into a commercial and cultural hub.
The award has been seen as a recognition of Governor Oborevwori’s developmental blueprint and his support for the creative community. It is expected to inspire more creative talents and attract investments that will further elevate Delta State within the global film industry
