The Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba”, over allegations of rape linked to the death of a 20-year-old woman.
According to the Command, the arrest followed a petition alleging that the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after receiving an invitation from the suspect.
Police said Ogbonna had reportedly offered to train the young woman in content creation through a programme he advertised on his social media platforms.
In a statement, the Police said the suspect allegedly lodged the victim in a hotel in Asaba where he allegedly raped and physically assaulted her.
The Command further stated that after the incident, the victim returned home in a distressed state and narrated her experience to her parents.
Police disclosed that before her death, the woman recorded a video in which she recounted her ordeal and the emotional trauma she suffered following the alleged assault.
The Command added that the deceased later ingested a toxic substance in what appeared to be a suicide attempt.
She was rushed to hospital but eventually died despite efforts to save her.
Confirming the development, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, PSC, ACIPM, mnips, had ordered a full investigation into the matter.
