Comrade Mulade Sheriff, a renowned peace and development advocate from Delta State, has urged the state’s various ethnic groups to put aside their differences and work towards development that benefits all Deltans.
As a United Nations Peace Ambassador and environmental rights activist, Sheriff emphasized the importance of embracing peace, unity, and development to attract investors and create employment opportunities for the state’s teeming youth.
*A Call for Unity Among Ethnic Groups*
Sheriff specifically appealed to the Urhobo, Itsekiri, and Ijaw communities, who are the backbone of the state’s economy, to unite and support the government’s efforts to attract investors. He encouraged traditional rulers and political leaders to shun hatred and focus on promoting peace, unity, and development.
*Government Commitment to Development*
As the National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Sheriff assured that both the federal and state governments are committed to attracting investors to the state. He praised the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in initiating projects and attracting federal presence to the state.
*Harnessing Potentials for Development*
Sheriff emphasized that Delta State is rich in human capital and natural resources, and that the state’s ethnic groups need to work together to harness these potentials and support the government’s efforts. By doing so, Deltans can enjoy the dividends of democracy and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth [1].
