The Delta State Government has declared a three-day period of mourning across the state in honour of the former Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, who passed away in the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026.
Dr. Uduaghan died at the age of 71, just three days to his 72nd birthday.
The declaration of the mourning period, which takes immediate effect from Monday, October 19, is to pay last respects to the former governor who led Delta State from 2007 to 2015.
As part of activities to honour the late statesman, the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered that all flags at public buildings, government establishments, and other official premises across the 25 local government areas of the state be flown at half-mast throughout the three days of mourning.
This directive was contained in an official statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu.
According to the statement, the three-day mourning is a mark of honour and respect for Dr. Uduaghan’s immense contributions to the growth and development of Delta State and his selfless service to the people.
The government said the half-mast measure symbolises the collective grief of Deltans over the loss of a former leader who dedicated over a decade of his life to the service of the state.
Dr. Uduaghan served as Commissioner for Health, Secretary to the State Government, and later as Governor for two terms.
The state government called on all Deltans to use the period of mourning to reflect on the life and legacies of the former governor and to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.
