Delta Labour Directs Workers To Resume Duty After Governor’s Intervention On Death Of Director*
Organized Labour in Delta State has directed all civil servants in the state to resume duties following the intervention of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the constitution of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Adeda Ekwevugbe, Deputy Director in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The directive was jointly issued by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Delta State Chapter, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Comrade Wilson Asekutu.
In the statement, the labour leaders advised all workers to resume work on Monday, September 28, 2026, by 8:00 a.m.
Comrade Ofobruku disclosed that the leadership of Organized Labour had met with Governor Oborevwori over the incident and confirmed that the criminal aspect of the case was already being investigated, with arrests made.
According to him, all persons found culpable in the incident would be prosecuted in accordance with the law, assuring workers that the unions would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served.
He thanked workers across the state for their solidarity since the unfortunate incident occurred, assured the family of the deceased of the continued support of the labour movement, and urged workers to remain calm, diligent and committed to their duties.
Ofobruku also expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his prompt intervention in the matter and for constituting an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
He further stated that Organized Labour would collaborate fully with the Panel of Inquiry to ensure that justice is served, while calling on workers to remain committed to effective and efficient service delivery to the people of Delta State.
