Asaba. Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has directed the suspended Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Hon. Reuben Izeze, to resume duties after completing 10 weeks from the date of his suspension.
The governor gave the directive on Tuesday, September 23, at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, during the swearing-in of the Auditor-General of the state and the inauguration of governing councils for the University of Delta, Agbor, Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, and Southern Delta University, Ozoro.
Oborevwori said Izeze had sent him a message on Tuesday morning appealing for forgiveness and requesting that the public be informed of his release from detention.
The governor said the commissioner’s decision to appear in public despite being under suspension and to take responsibility for his actions informed the decision to lift the suspension.
He said his administration expects all political appointees to conduct themselves with discipline and warned that no one is above the law.
Izeze is expected to resume on October 19, 2026.
The state government had suspended Izeze indefinitely on August 10, following allegations linking him to the assault of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.
The alleged incident occurred during a meeting of the All Progressives Congress stakeholders at the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun.
At the time of the suspension, the government said the action was to allow security agencies to investigate the matter without interference.
Before his suspension, Izeze was arraigned before a High Court in Effurun and was remanded at the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri pending the determination of his bail application.
