Former Deputy President of the Senate and Delta Central Senatorial Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has condemned the violent attack on members of the party during its One Million-Man March in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a press statement issued on Friday, September 19, 2026, Omo-Agege described the incident, which reportedly occurred on Thursday, as “violent and unprovoked,” calling for an immediate investigation by security agencies.

According to the statement, the march, led by the NDC Governorship Candidate, Chris Iyovwaye, was a peaceful demonstration that attracted thousands of supporters.

Omo-Agege said that the sequence of disruption started at Angle Park in Warri South LGA, where the NDC members had initially gathered. He claimed persons identified as APC supporters asked them to leave the venue, alleging that the APC had a rally there.

He said after intervention by the police, his party members moved to the area around Total filling station in Warri.

He further explained that at the Total filling station, APC supporters again approached them, claiming they had government instructions not to allow the NDC march to proceed through Warri South, forcing them to move towards the traffic-light junction in Uvwie.

“It was at the Uvwie junction that the procession was attacked,” Omo-Agege said. He alleged that despite the attack, members proceeded to Ugborokoko, where they were again attacked from different directions and gunshots were reportedly fired.

The former Deputy Senate President also said that at Jakpa Road, the procession was attacked again, leading to the apprehension of one Collins, alias “Black Moses,” who was allegedly disarmed of an AK-47 rifle by human rights activist, Efemena Umukoro, and handed over to the police.

Omo-Agege further claimed that the violence continued at Urhuomarho, where over 100 persons were reportedly injured and are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

He described the apprehended suspect as a “notorious thug in Ugboroke allegedly tasked by the Delta State Government to violently attack and disrupt NDC campaigns in Uvwie.”

He also alleged that information reaching him indicated that the state government ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest Umukoro, the activist who reportedly disarmed the suspect.

While commiserating with injured supporters, Omo-Agege said the NDC would not be intimidated and would continue with peaceful, issue-based campaigns.

He called on the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the DSS and other security agencies to investigate the alleged attack, the alleged police inaction, and the case of the apprehended suspect.

He also appealed to Delta youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of political violence.

As of press time, efforts to get the reaction of the Delta State Police Command and the Delta State Government on the allegations were ongoing.
