Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the first elected female President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
The governor also congratulated two Deltans, Chief Oghenero Okoro and Mrs. Gladys Aghogho Okpomor, on their election into executive positions in the NBA National Executive Committee. He described the achievements as a milestone for the legal profession and a victory for merit, excellence and gender inclusion.
In a statement issued on Friday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor described the development as a milestone for the legal profession and a reflection of merit, excellence and gender inclusion.
Oborevwori said the election showed the confidence members of the legal profession have in Badejo-Okusanya.
He noted that her career has been marked by integrity, professionalism and commitment to justice.
He expressed optimism that her tenure would strengthen the NBA, deepen the rule of law and drive reforms that will improve access to justice nationwide.
The governor called on the new NBA President to unite members of the association following the keenly contested election.
He urged her to work with stakeholders to advance judicial reforms, protect the sanctity of the Constitution and sustain the profession’s role in Nigeria’s democratic development. He also wished her a successful tenure.
Oborevwori who also felicitated with two Deltaans elected into the NBA National Executive Committee, Oghenero Okoro and Mrs. Gladys Aghogho Okpomor described Okoro’s emergence as First Vice President of the NBA as well deserved.
He said the former Chairman of the NBA Warri Branch has made outstanding contributions to the legal profession.
He added that Okoro’s victory is a source of pride to Delta State and expressed confidence that he would bring his experience to bear in strengthening the association.
On Okpomor, the governor said her election as Assistant General Secretary of the NBA underscores the growing influence of Delta professionals in the nation’s legal community.
He recalled that she previously served as Assistant General Secretary of the Young Lawyers Forum, Minna Branch, and commended her dedication to the growth of the profession.
Oborevwori said the achievements of the three lawyers reflect positively on Delta State.
He noted that their emergence at the national level of the NBA highlights the capacity and commitment of professionals from the state.
The governor wished all the newly elected national officers of the NBA a successful tenure. He urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism as they work to advance the interests of the legal profession and the administration of justice in Nigeria.
