Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Monday made an unscheduled visit to the Technical College construction site in Irri, Isoko South Local Government Area.
He left visibly angry over the slow pace of work, calling the 7-year delay on the project “unacceptable.”*
The contract for the college was first awarded in 2019. Seven years later, the project is still incomplete. During the inspection, the governor was received by key Isoko stakeholders:
Chairman, Isoko South LGA Council
HRM Simon Wajutome Odhomo, Igbogidi
The Odio-Ologbo of Irri Kingdom
*High Chief Iduh Amadhe* – Former President-General, Isoko Development Union (IDU)
Oborevwori accused the contractor of lacking both competence and commitment. He said a serious contractor would have people and activity on site, but he met an empty site with no workers or contractor presence.
After walking through the entire site, the governor told journalists he does not believe the contractor’s promise to finish by August 2026.
He gave reasons:
“The workshop has not even started. Landscaping is still pending, and parts of the roof are incomplete. The front of the building looks different from the back. That is why I inspected everywhere.” he said.
“This project was awarded in 2019. It is a shame it is still not done after seven years. What exactly is holding the contractor?”_he asked.
The governor said he will invite both the contractor and the project consultant for questioning.
He blamed the consultant for weak oversight.
“The consultant’s job is to supervise and keep the government updated. The supervision here is very poor, and I am not satisfied.” he noted._
He added that he had hoped the college would start admitting students by September, but the delay has now made that impossible.
Oborevwori reaffirmed that his administration will no longer tolerate abandoned or delayed projects.
He said all contractors must deliver quality work within the agreed timelines or face consequences.
