Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday held a thanksgiving service to mark the peaceful and successful APC primary election process in the state.
Speaking at a morning devotion in the Government House Chapel, Asaba, the governor thanked God for the unity, stability, and continued support for his administration. He said the service was to acknowledge God’s faithfulness and the calm atmosphere that prevailed during the primaries.
Oborevwori explained that thanksgiving has always been his practice after every victory, adding that gratitude to God is important in all situations.
“First, I want to thank God today for keeping us to this day. Thank God for all that He has done for us and for the show of love that Deltans have shown to this administration,” he said.
Quoting Psalm 100:4, the governor noted that believers are called to enter God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise.
“So, I have come here to return the glory to God who has made everything possible. No crisis, no fights, nothing. Everything went peacefully,” he stated.
He described the recent primaries as among the smoothest the state has seen in recent years, saying the outcome was especially meaningful given past experiences.
“If you know what we went through in the 2022 primaries, we have every reason to thank God that everything went well,” he said.
Oborevwori also cautioned against placing political leaders on a pedestal, reminding the congregation that public service is ultimately to God.
“You are not serving me, you are serving God. Salvation is personal,” he said, urging people to remain thankful for life, health, and God’s blessings. He pointed out that good health alone is enough reason to give thanks, noting that wealth without health is meaningless.
The governor appreciated those who keep up regular prayer sessions at the Government House Chapel from Monday to Friday. He added that the state government will hold its annual thanksgiving service on Friday as part of events to mark his third year in office and to thank God for His guidance and blessings.
