Five victims have been identified, while 3 remain unidentified due to severe burns.

The governor noted that 13 people have been rescued so far, and emergency teams are still searching the rubble for possible survivors.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by human error, specifically unsafe generator use and refuelling on different floors, which was intensified by combustible materials stored in the building.

Lagos state Governor has set up a massive rescue and recovery operations as well as information centre at the site, where officers from LASEMA, NEMA, LASBCA, and other responding agencies are providing assistance to the public.

Report says the Governor has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and those affected by the fire.

The area has been closed due to safety concerns, and emergency teams are working to ensure no one remains trapped in the rubble.

The governor has ordered a phased, controlled demolition of the GNI building due to collapse risks, with some surrounding structures also slated for removal to protect public safety.
