This declaration was made to commemorate the Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations, respectively.

According to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the government has made this declaration to enable Nigerians to observe these significant events with their families and loved ones.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the Minister extended warm greetings to Christians in Nigeria and around the world, as well as to all Nigerians, on the occasion of these festivities.

The Minister urged Christians to use this opportunity to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice that are associated with the birth of Jesus Christ. He emphasized that these values are essential for promoting unity, tolerance, and harmony in the country.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also called on all Nigerians, regardless of their religious or ethnic background, to use the festive season to pray for peace, security, and progress in the country. He encouraged citizens to support the government’s efforts towards national development and cohesion.

The Minister further urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and moderate in their celebrations. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and safe festive period.

In conclusion, Dr. Tunji-Ojo wished all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, while expressing hope that the festive season would bring people together in unity and harmony.
