Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, in a London clinic.

He died after a prolonged illness, which had been ongoing since his time in office.

His family announced his passing, with his former aide Bashir Ahmad and spokesperson Garba Shehu sharing the news on social media, saying “May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin”.

Further details on funeral arrangements will be announced by the family according to Islamic rites. President Bola Tinubu has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for the departed leader and has sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria
