Two persons have been confirmed dead while many were rescued after rubble collapsed on scavengers who swooped to pick up materials they deem useful at two demotion site in Kano State on Thursday.
Kano State Government recently demolished some structures it said are illegal.
One person died at the Eid Ground demolition site while at the demolished Daula Hotel site.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Husaini Gumel, who was at the Daula Hotel scene of the incidents, said they have arrested 106 suspects scavenging around demolished structures in the state and will continue to provide security in the demolished sites.
Also reacting, the Managing Director of Kano State Urban Planning Development Agency, Ibrahim Yakubu, said the state government has directed the police commissioner to take over the sites and arrest trespassers.
