Oborevwori hails New NBA President, Two Delta Executives

3, May 2026

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday said the successes recorded by his administration in the last three years are due to God’s grace, wisdom, and mercy.

Speaking at the 2026 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, the governor said all the development strides were achieved without borrowing and through careful management of resources.

The event was held to mark the third anniversary of his administration, which began on May 29, 2023.

Addressing political leaders, government officials, clergy, traditional rulers, and residents, Oborevwori thanked Deltans for their support over the past three years, describing the journey as “eventful, exciting and enlightening.”

He noted that the period saw the rollout of people-focused programmes and projects aimed at improving living standards, alongside major infrastructure projects across the state.

“Today, we are celebrating three years of this administration. Indeed, this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our sight. I remain eternally grateful to God for finding me worthy to serve the people of Delta State in this capacity,” he said.

The governor explained that despite challenges, his government scaled through by relying on divine wisdom, sincerity of purpose, and prudent financial management. He stressed that every contract awarded had funding backing, and the state has continued to pay contractors without taking loans.

“We are here to thank God for the wisdom to execute development projects all over the state without borrowing a kobo from anybody or bank. Every contract that we give out, the money is available. We have constantly discharged our obligations to our contractors,” he stated.

Oborevwori also gave thanks for the peace and security in Delta, calling peace the foundation for development and investment. He said the state remains a leading oil producer and is now attracting more investors because of its stability.

He commended security agencies for maintaining law and order, and appreciated former governors Chief James Ibori, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for the foundations they laid. He also acknowledged Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor and members of the Delta State House of Assembly, traditional and religious leaders, civil servants, appointees, and other stakeholders for their contributions.

Calling for unity, the governor urged Deltans to keep supporting the government as it enters the final phase of its first tenure.

“Delta State is our home. We don’t have any other state. What is important is how we come together to build this state. With unity, Delta will continue to move forward and become an envy of other states,” he said.

In his sermon titled “Ever Increasing Progress,” renowned cleric Apostle Joshua Selman said lasting progress starts with acknowledging God and staying connected to Him. He commended Delta for its annual thanksgiving tradition and prayed for continued growth, prosperity, and development.

Selman outlined seven biblical keys to sustained progress: abiding in Christ, avoiding distractions, seeking more knowledge and understanding, courage, humility, building strategic relationships, and maintaining a lifestyle of thanksgiving. He also praised Oborevwori’s commitment to development and urged leaders and citizens to stay focused despite challenges and criticism.

The event featured scripture reading by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and praise ministrations by gospel artistes Dunsin Oyekan, Moses Bliss, Asu Ekiye, Solomon Urete, M & Revelation, Jerry Ekpekuro, and Solo Kings.

A major highlight was the cutting of the third anniversary cake to mark three years in office.

Dignitaries present included former governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, Senators Joel-Onowakpo Thomas and Ede Dafinone, and House of Representatives members Francis Waive, Jonathan Ukodhiko, and Nnamdi Ezechi, among others.
