Men of the Delta State Police command on Wednesday rescued couple allegedly kidnapped along Sapele-Warri road by Aziza junction.
According to a press release made available to Trackupnews by the the Delta Command Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bright Edafe, the DPO of Ovwian Aladja division Operatives,
Aliyu Shaba received a distress call while on a confidence building proactive patrol along DSC/Effurrun road
that a couple was kidnapped and their lexus Jeep was taken
The DPO swiftly trailed the escape route of the suspected kidnappers and eventually intercepted the vehicle along Warri-Sapele road by Aziza junction.
The statement explained that the suspects opened fire on sighting the police team as a defence mechanism to escape.
The Police and the suspects however engaged in a gun battle and two of the suspects were neutralised by the police while the other suspects abandoned the kidnapped couples in the vehicle and escaped.
The victims were rescued unhurt.
Among items recovered from them are One AK47 rifle with breach number 16869, forty-six rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, one pump action gun, and thirteen live cartridges.
The Commissioner of police, Wale abass, while expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the successful operation, admonished other DPO’s to also sanitize their areas.
He however promised that the command under his watch will force criminals to relocate or steer clear from crime.
The Police Boss also advised parents and community leaders to counsel their youths/wards to stay clear from trading on arms as a source of income to avoid disastrous end.
