Gunmen have abducted the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Bright Abeke, in Delta State on Friday night.
The incident sparked widespread panic and concern among residents.
The incident occurred at Debroefed hotel, located along Owumi Road in Sapele, where the council boss was reportedly staying.
Eyewitnesses described the attackers as arriving in a Range Rover, opening fire on Abeke’s security detail, and whisking him away to an unknown destination.
One of the security aides, CSO Ufuoma, was shot during the attack, but his condition remains unclear as of press time.
The abduction has prompted residents to call on security agencies to take swift action, with growing appeals to seal off all entry and exit points in Sapele to facilitate the rescue of the abducted chairman and track down the perpetrators.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the development
