The Delta State Government has imposed a restriction of movement in Udu Local Government Area ahead of Saturday’s House of Assembly bye-election.
The restriction will take effect from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
This was contained in a special announcement issued on Thursday and signed by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu.
According to Aniagwu, the measure is to guarantee a safe, peaceful and orderly election and to ensure adequate protection for voters and sensitive electoral materials.
He urged all residents and members of the public in Udu to comply fully with the directive throughout the duration of the exercise.
The government, however, noted that the restriction does not apply to persons on essential duties and those directly involved in the conduct of the election.
Those exempted include accredited election observers, media practitioners, security agents, emergency responders, essential service providers and other authorized personnel carrying out election-related assignments.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed Saturday, September 19, for the Udu State Constituency bye-election, which is part of legislative bye-elections scheduled to hold across Delta, Gombe, Bauchi and Kano states.
INEC said voting will hold at designated polling units in the affected constituencies between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The state government called on residents of Udu to cooperate with security agencies and adhere to all lawful directives put in place to ensure a hitch-free and peaceful electoral process.
