The Delta State Government says civil servants remain central to the successful delivery of government policies, and has restated its resolve to prioritize their welfare and professional growth.

The assurance was given on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, during an inspection of the newly completed quarters for Permanent Secretaries in Asaba.

The facility is scheduled for inauguration on Thursday by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Dr. Emu said the Oborevwori administration has rolled out several initiatives to improve working conditions across the state civil service.

According to him, workers now operate a three-day work week, receive vehicle allowances, have access to government-backed loans, and benefit from continuous training and capacity-building programs.

“Today, civil servants are enjoying a three-day working week. That is a lot of convenience. We have paid vehicle allowances, made provisions for loans, and we send them on training,” Emu said.

He added that he personally oversees approvals for training, stressing that Delta has invested heavily in workforce development.

Describing civil servants as “friends of government and indispensable partners,” the SSG said their welfare remains top on the administration’s agenda.

“Civil servants are friends to the government. He added.

He further explained that the new residential quarters for Permanent Secretaries are part of a wider welfare package.

Retired and former civil servants, he said, have also been reintegrated into government programmes.

“Governor Oborevwori is not just for the people.

He’s even so much so for the civil servants because he believes that they lay the golden eggs,” Dr. Emu stated, describing the civil service as the engine room of governance.

Speaking on the housing project, the SSG called the 12-unit complex “elegant edifices befitting the apex officers of the state civil service.”

Each unit, he said, has four bedrooms, is fully air-conditioned, and comes with modern facilities.

“The entire PS complex is for civil servants. We have 12 of them, four bedrooms each, with all air-conditioned and then with all the facilities that you can think of. There’s going to be unlimited power here, 24-7. The roads are well paved and they are well secured,” he said.

Dr. Emu, however, clarified that the housing drive is not exclusive to Permanent Secretaries.

The government, he said, is also working with private developers and the Federal Mortgage Bank to provide alternative housing options for other categories of civil servants.

The commissioning of the quarters on Thursday is expected to be one of the highlights of the administration’s ongoing welfare reforms for public workers in the state.
