Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has stepped in and resolved the ongoing industrial crisis at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara in Ethiope West LGA.
In a closed-door meeting with the hospital’s management, he also ordered urgent action to fix the hospital’s long-standing infrastructure and power problems.
Prof. Harrison Abedi, Chief Medical Director of DELSUTH, briefed journalists in Asaba after the meeting.
He explained that the governor personally invited the hospital’s management for discussions and successfully resolved the issues that led to workers’ unrest.
Prof. Abedi said the intervention has restored hope among staff and management.
A major issue discussed was the hospital’s 2-week blackout that crippled operations and water supply.
On this , the Delta State Government informed them that the challenge by would soon end as the state has
awarded a contract to restore stable electricity of which the Ministry of Energy has begun implementation.
A new high-tension transformer for a dedicated 33KVA line has been sourced from Lagos and is being delivered for installation.
“The governor has assured us that the power problem will soon become a thing of the past. We are grateful that the Ministry of Energy has swung into action, and we expect the transformer to arrive very soon,”_ Prof. Abedi said.

He also told journalist that he has has been told to work directly with the Commissioner for Health to carry out a comprehensive overhaul.
The plan will tackle the hospital’s ageing buildings and equipment to improve healthcare delivery.
Strike Expected to End.
The CMD expressed optimism that with these steps, the striking unions will call off the industrial action.
“We believe the unions will reconsider their position, and we are hopeful that the strike will be called off soon. Once that happens, normal services will resume immediately, and DELSUTH will return to full operation.” he said.
Prof. Abedi praised Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to healthcare, calling the intervention “responsive and people-centred leadership.”
