The Delta State Government has successfully evacuated a total of 34 students from the University of Jos, Plateau State, in the wake of the recent security crisis in the area.

The evacuation effort, which was coordinated by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Comrade Ezekiel Okoh, was undertaken in response to the university’s decision to temporarily shut down academic activities due to the security situation.

During a reception ceremony for the evacuated students, the State Director of Protocol, Chief Sunday Onoriode, expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his swift intervention, which ensured the safe return of the students to their homes in Delta State. Onoriode commended the proactive governance and effective coordination that characterized the evacuation process, describing it as a testament to the state government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

The students were encouraged to use the Easter period to rest and remain hopeful, with assurances that normalcy would soon return to the troubled region.

Comrade Okoh, who coordinated the evacuation effort, explained that the state government had worked with stakeholders and transport operators to mobilize logistics and move the students out of the university.

A student representative, Comrade Newton Miracle, Vice President of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU), University of Jos chapter, described the evacuation as challenging but timely, expressing deep appreciation to the Delta State Government and all stakeholders involved.

The state government reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Delta students across the country, urging them to remain law-abiding and focused on their academic pursuits.
