The Delta State Police Command marked the third day of the 2026 National Police Week with a public and drivers’ sensitisation programme across the state.

The event aimed to educate drivers and residents on personal safety, crime prevention, and the importance of reporting suspicious activities to the police.

Officers engaged directly with residents, providing practical guidance on staying safe and contributing to a more secure society. A special session was organised for drivers and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Delta State chapter, focusing on road safety and responsible conduct.

Drivers were advised to obey traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, update their vehicle documents, and respect law enforcement officers. The initiative aims to reduce road accidents and enhance orderliness on Delta State roads.

The Command also distributed gift items to members of the public as part of its community engagement efforts, reinforcing goodwill and strengthening police-community relations.

 

The Chairman of NURTW, Delta State chapter, praised the initiative, stating that it’s timely and productive. He urged drivers to comply with traffic regulations and update their vehicle documents.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, noted that public enlightenment is crucial for effective policing. He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in reporting suspicious activities

DAY THREE OF NATIONAL POLICE WEEK 2026: DELTA POLICE HOLDS PUBLIC AND DRIVERS’ SENSITISATION, DISTRIBUTES SOUVENIRS.

The Delta State Police Command today, Wednesday, 1 April 2026, continued activities marking the 2026 National Police day with a public and drivers’ sensitisation programme held across the State.

The sensitization exercise was aimed at educating drivers, members of the public on personal safety, crime prevention, and the importance of timely reporting of suspicious activities to the Police. Officers engaged directly with residents, providing practical guidance on how to stay safe and contribute to a more secure society.

As part of the programme, a special session was organised for drivers and members of National Union of Road Transport Workers, Delta State chapter in Asaba, focusing on road safety and responsible conduct. Drivers were advised on the need to obey traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, updating their vehicle particulars, and respect law enforcement officers while carrying out their duties. The initiative is geared towards reducing road accidents and enhancing orderliness on the roads across the State.

In addition, the Command distributed gift items to members of the public as part of its community engagement efforts, further reinforcing goodwill and strengthening police–community relations.

The chairman NURTW, Delta State chapter in his remarks stated that this initiative is timely and productive, he thanked the Police immensely and also opined that any of their driver who park indiscriminately or refuse to update their vehicle documents when arrested should be prosecuted.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi psc, acipm, mnips, noted that public enlightenment remains a critical component of effective policing. He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in reporting suspicious activities, while also encouraging continuous cooperation with the Police.
