The Chairman of the committee, Mrs. Agas Oghenekevwe, stated this during a meeting of the committee at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development in Asaba.

Mrs Agas emphasised the importance of protecting and upholding the rights of children, as enshrined in the national and international laws and called on all stakeholders to step up the advocacy.

She stated that the committee would actively engage with policymakers and government officials to raise awareness on the Child’s Rights Law, adding that the committee would not relent in implementing the law.

The Chairman of the committee noted the importance of education in every child’s life and stated that the committee would actively engage the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities, including community leaders, to ensure every child’s right to quality education was upheld.

She further stated that the committee would collaborate with civil society organisations and individuals, dedicated to child rights advocacy.

She also mentioned that the committee would work closely with the law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to ensure swift resolution of cases involving child rights violations.

“The committee will carry out advocacy to enhance the understanding of child rights and improve the ability to handle such cases.

“In addition to advocacy efforts, the committee will actively monitor the implementation of the Child’s Rights Law in Delta State. Regular assessments, research and evaluations will be conducted to identify gaps and areas requiring improvement.

“Monitoring progress will enable us to effectively address challenges and provide recommendations to enhance the implementation process,” she said.

Mrs Agas stressed that the committee would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to establish necessary mechanisms and institutions to safeguard and promote children’s rights, including ensuring the establishment of Child Rights Implementation committees in the Local Government areas in the state to enhance quick response to issues concerning child rights and the general well-being of children.

“We firmly believe that by consolidating efforts, we can create a safe and nurturing environment for all children, where their rights are protected, and their voices are heard.
